Tick: Your Guide to Tick-Borne Diseases
Tick is a free Android app developed by Garzotto GmbH that serves as a guide to tick-borne diseases. It provides valuable information about tick bites and the risk of tick-borne diseases in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The app features a risk hazard map that shows the current tick bite risk in the area. Users can log tick bites and sightings in the tick diary and set reminders to compare pictures of symptoms with the bite on their body.
The app also educates users about tick-borne diseases, TBE vaccination recommendations, and the lifecycle of Ixodes ricinus tick. Bites and sightings reported anonymously are shown as pink or turquoise dots on the potential risk map, contributing to the applied research efforts conducted by ZHAW. The app development was done by Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW, ZHAW Spin-off A&K Strategy GmbH, and Andreas Garzotto GmbH with support from the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), National Reference Centre for tick-transmitted diseases (NRZK), and Liga für Zeckenkranke Schweiz (LIZ).
Overall, Tick is a valuable resource for those living in tick-infested areas who want to learn more about tick-borne diseases and how to protect themselves from tick bites.
